which has turnedpeople into monstersand anyone who has survived now lives ina floating castleunder the rule of self-proclaimed leaderivor who is the one that has locked uprowena's songameplay wise as control lucian attimes as he tries to gain informationand power to assist roraina and bringdown ivorsometimes the action will switch betweenthe two characters mid-battleand we'll discuss this in more detail abit later starting with the battle inWatch at: 01:20 / 01:40sections then rowena herself isn't onthe front line during battlealthough she can take part instead themain fighting is done by your exemplarswho are positioned on the main battleplane each exemplar can perform a basicattack and you choose which of theseexemplars to attack with by pressing theface button assigned to themand displayed above their head eachattack will use one attack point withWatch at: 01:40 / 02:00these refilling slowly over timeattacking enemies builds up your manaand gaining enough of this will earn youa minor orbthese can then be used to perform yourcharacter's special attackscalled death blows you can also use theminor orbs to perform magic attacks withrorena herselfyou can block by holding down l and thisis important as a perfect block willWatch at: 02:00 / 02:20reveal one attack point for eachexemplarplus it can give you the chance to stunyour opponent as well as attacking youwill need to move your troops along thetiles on your side of the screen toavoidenemy attacks and you can also aim at aspecific tile in your opponent's sideto target a particular enemy you do thiswith the right stickif an exemplar falls in battle rowenaWatch at: 02:20 / 02:40can attempt to revivethem by holding down their assigned facebutton until that character's portraitrefillsthis will become harder the more timesthey fall with the portrait takinglonger to refilland should all of your exemplars fall atonce then it's game over and you'll needto retry thatbattle as i mentioned the battles takeplace on a 2d planeand victory in one of these will seeWatch at: 02:40 / 03:00your team move on to the nextuntil you generally get to a boss battlethese can be quite tricky with bosseshaving huge health barsthe boss at the end of a chapter hasmultiple health bars for you to getthroughand these will need you to strategize inorder to succeed and are real wars ofattritionat the end of one of these runs you willbe graded on your performance and willhave the opportunity to choose a skillWatch at: 03:00 / 03:20called an arceus plus you may also gainsome spoils of warthe battle system is actually very goodand pretty deep and after battle youwill be taken to the hub area of thecity of welkin which is generally whereyou switch to lucianthis again takes place on a 2d plane andthere are a number of support characterspresent here that you can speak toWatch at: 03:20 / 03:40walking to the edge of the screen allowsyou to travel to the other areas of thecastlesuch as the library the warehouse andthe chapel in the library you canexamine any of the weapons you gained asspoils of warand these will either give you new deathblow moves to choose from for yourcurrent exemplarsor entirely new exemplars to join yourteamvisiting the warehouse allows you toWatch at: 03:40 / 04:00infuse any of the arceusthose end of battle skills i mentionedthat you've been awarded to one of yourexemplarsallowing them to gain that passiveability in battle the chapel is whereany scrolls that you getagain as spoils of war can be decodedand these will then grant rowena newmagic spellswhen you are ready to head back out intobattle you can chooseWatch at: 04:00 / 04:20free of your team of exemplars equippingany new death blows that you've earnedand then it's back out for the next runthis isn't all that lucian does in hissection thoughhis whole story arc revolves aroundtrying to take down ivar from the insideplaying political mind games andmanipulating people to try and weakenthe establishmentfor example at one point you will getthe chance to spoil the food rations inWatch at: 04:20 / 04:40the hope that hungry civilians willcause an uprising out of desperationwhen the spoilt food is discovered youcan choose to deceive your fellowmembers of the councillooking to shift the blame elsewhere youcan try to gain favor from people inpower by promising to support themin exchange for information or you couldgive gifts to servantsin return for anything they may haveWatch at: 04:40 / 05:00overheard whilst workingas good as this sounds though for themost part is the weakest point of thegamethe reason for this is that everythingbeing on a 2d plane means that you areonly ever really walking from one screento the next clicking the talk option foranyone that you findand moving on to another topic if onebecomes available on the conversationwheelsometimes you might need to sneak pastWatch at: 05:00 / 05:20guards or find an itembut to be honest it's all incrediblybasic to give credit where it's duesometimes it throws up some interestingideasfor example finding something written ina book in the library could open up adifferent path to taking battleand may lead you to finding a newexemplar but it misses much more than ithitsdue to not really fleshing out any ofthe characters properlyWatch at: 05:20 / 05:40the quality of the storytelling is justnot good enough to carry the politicalangle lucian sections go for as imentioned earlier sometimes theswitching of the characters will happenmid battleand lucian will be tasked with doingsomething whilst the timer counts downit may be to try and win support of yourpeers for the next round of electionsbut again it just boils down to talkingto everyone as quickly as you canWatch at: 05:40 / 06:00and hoping that your actions thus farsuch as items found or relationshipsbuiltopen up the conversation point you needto help you achieve your objectivethere were also a few times where theirinclusion just felt detrimental to thegameplayat one point i beat a gruelling bossafter a tough run of battleshaving failed on the boss a few times iwas then presented with a screen of lucyWatch at: 06:00 / 06:20and being accused of a crimeand i could either try to shift theblame to someone else or refuse to speaki refused to speak and was told i wasbeing executeddue to this i had to start the wholesection again including the bossthis is a ridiculous mechanic and acomplete waste of timewhy make me fight a boss again becauseof an option i choseafter defeating it either input anWatch at: 06:20 / 06:40alternate storyline that deals with theconsequence of my actionas should be the case if choice is soimportant or just let me choose theother answeri encountered a similar scenario lateron and had a feeling that againone of the answers would end the gameprobably in a bad ending sort of wayrather than a game overbut because i had a feeling i would haveto redo the section again to continueWatch at: 06:40 / 07:00on the alternate path i picked theanswer i didn't really wantto avoid that from potentially happeningin terms of the controls they do takesome getting used tothe battles do feel very hectic to startwith and the movement of your teamacross the tiles never seems to feel asresponsive as it needs to beto deal with a threat coming your wayespecially later in the game where youWatch at: 07:00 / 07:20are constantly hopping across tiles toavoid projectiles or debuff spells beingsent across by the enemygameplay is a strange mix of greatbattle sequencesan interesting but undercut politicalweb weaving storyline and a veryunrewarding choice systemon balance it gets 12 out of 20.controls are ok for the most partand do hold up fairly well in the heatWatch at: 07:20 / 07:40of battle but movement never feels asfluid as it should and they get 13 outof 20.in terms of the visuals the game uses ahand-drawn art styleand this is quite mixed in my opinionsome of the character designs are quiteintricately detailedi liked pretty much all of the exemplarWatch at: 07:40 / 08:00characters for exampleplus some of the static images used incutscenes are well drawnbut on the flip side some of the othercharacters lucian in particularjust have a low budget feel to them thebackgrounds in battle are also just notvaried enoughthere's only about one per chapter plusa couple of slight variationsuntil about three quarters of the waythrough the game when a few more doWatch at: 08:00 / 08:20show up but by this point really it'sjust a bit too late and even then to behonest it's just a constant repeat ofthe same assetsit's a bit like when scooby-doo andshaggy run down a corridor and pass thesame grandfather clock about eight timesas well as this i also had three crashesduring my time of the gameall of which led to large chunks ofprogress being lostand one of these was when i was rightWatch at: 08:20 / 08:40near the end of the gameaudio wise things are high octane duringbattle sections but nothing reallystands out and although the game doescontain some voice acting it's only usedat certain timesthere isn't really any rhyme or reasonas to when the speech is used and ialways found this stilted approach ingames quite distractingvisuals just aren't varied enough tokeep things interesting plus theWatch at: 08:40 / 09:00progress i lost due to three crashes isjust inexcusableand they score 11 out of 20. audio fitsthe action but it isn't particularlymemorableor inspiring and it gets 13 out of 20.fallen legion revenants cost 35 pounds99 and regional equivalents are on yourscreen nowWatch at: 09:00 / 09:20you are definitely getting a fairlylengthy adventure for your money i wasat around the 15 hour mark and quiteclose to the endwhen that third crash occurred therewere dialogue choices still locked andthe fate of specific characters had thepotential to change with a secondplaythrough but personally i wouldn'thave the motivation to play this gameagainit all feels about a chapter too longmeaning that even the battling systemWatch at: 09:20 / 09:40the game's saving grace up to this pointalso starts to feel repetitive it justdoesn't feel like a 35 pound gameas far as either design or productionvalues go there is a demo available withsave data that transfers over so i wouldadvise trying thisbut for me value gets 10 out of 20.Watch at: 09:40 / 10:00to conclude fallen legion revenant hassome interesting ideasi like the idea of showing the two sidesof attempting to win a warwith both the pen and the sword if youwill and that's about halfway through itwould have scored a bit higher than thisbut the storytelling is so disjointedthe political side with lucianwhich is never great becomes even moreWatch at: 10:00 / 10:20tedious the further in you getand the battling system as good as it iscannot keep things together as the gamecollapses under its own weightthrow in a choice system which left meunsatisfied at best andi'm quite annoyed at worst plus crashesthat lost me progress in the gameand to be honest the writing is on thewall for this one[Music]Watch at: 10:20 / 10:40hold on i'm here falling legionrevenants gets a switch-up scoreof 59 you everybody for watching i hopeyou enjoyed this 1. A really odd review to do. About halfway in, this was fun but flawed but a host of crashes, such odd gameplay choices and some serious repetition meant that this one really flagged after further gameplay sessions. Have you ever had a game that felt like this? Let us know. Glen

  2. Commenting as I watch so that the algo gods favor this video. From the outset, the game looks cool and seems to have intricate gameplay, but Glen’s comment doesn’t inspire much confidence in this one haha

  3. Was hoping this game would be a big improvement on the first one, since I did like it, but it didn't feel varied enough. Thanks for the great review though! Now I'll probably just wait for a deep eshop sale to buy it rather than rushing to get it, which is how I got the first one anyways.

  4. Looks like a Valkyrie Profile inspired game to me, and any game that goes for that will immediately catch my eye. I bought Indivisible just because of that, but the writing in that game kinda threw me for a loop. I liked it to a certain extent, but never finished it.
This one looks interesting. Maybe I'll buy it if it goes on a sale.

  5. i played the demo for this. i love the artstyle, and the story seemed decent enough. but i HATED the combat. i cant really explain why, i just didnt find it fun at all. if it were either a traditional turn based combat, or more action oriented i would have bought it. as is, im going to pass on this.

  6. Yeah, this one isn't for me…I will stick to replaying the Darkest Dungeon campaigns with all the different character combinations available to keep things interesting.

  7. Ah how disappointing. I'd really had my eye on this one and even halfway through the review, I was thinking "well, if this is like 15-20, it may still be worth trying" but that's a pretty steep price for that many problems.

  8. Wow, that's quite sad. I enjoyed the first couple games in the series but there are way too many great rpg's out there that look way more enjoyable than this for a fraction of the price.

  9. Game sounds like Valkyrie Profile with Vigil's art style, sounds like a lot of fun.
*Watched the rest of the video. Dang, sounds like it needs a lot of work still to be great.

  10. That problem you had with making a choice and choosing the 'wrong' one is my only complaint so far with Disaster Report 4: I had to lie to a guy, saying I was some company's president's daughter to get an envelope full of cash in order to continue moving the game forward. For a game supposedly all about choices and living with the consequences of them, I still can't stand that I had to lie there

  11. It’s like a weaker version of Indivisible. When you said you had to fight the boss again just because you refused to answer, that’s disrespectful to my time. I won’t be getting this chap! Thanks for the review as always!
