00:20 / 00:40have a bath but let me ask you this ifyou have a dog do you bathe your dog I'msure you do and guinea pigs need bathsfor just the same reason as dogs itactually keeps them healthy so some ofthe myths I've heard is that guinea pigsget ear infections they get upperrespiratory Ziff you give them bathsbecause the water will go in their earWatch at: 00:40 / 01:00and your nose and that's really bad itlowers their immune system if you givethem a bath where so they can actuallybecome very susceptible for mites wellin fact it's actually the opposite so Ireally think it's super important to getthat information out there that guineapigs need baths to stay healthy and youWatch at: 01:00 / 01:20can totally tell you see a guinea pigthat has never had a bath who's aroundthree years old or so that's when youreally notice it you will see that thefur is just kind of clumpy and a littlebit of greasy and you know and probablyyou won't even see the no differenceuntil you've given your guinea but your dog doesn'teither right here and little kids don'tlike it either but they have to do inorder to stay healthy they really reallydo so we recommend doing it about threeWatch at: 01:40 / 02:00four times a year and then right beforethe bath what we always do and you'reSpencer actually Spencer's gonna get hisbath today I'm gonna do his bath todayand what we do before the bath we do here that weuse at the rescue right below the videoso we use the Clippers we use a littlebit of olive oil and q-tips for the earswe do like a little boy cleaning sincehe is a boy need that for that as wellWatch at: 02:20 / 02:40we this is a shampoo that we like to usethis is an antifungal animal shampoo petshampoo and the reason that we use thisone is because guinea pigs are superprone to get fungal infections veryprone super common for guinea pigs toget that so they carried a sports withWatch at: 02:40 / 03:00them you know and sometimes when they'relittle stressed or for whatever reasonit can get the over hand and all of asudden become an infection and theproblem so this is why I'm all aboutprevention and this shampoo preventsthat and that is why it is and it'sreally nice when you're using it it'ssuper soft I just love it I just love itand then you know we just use a cheapWatch at: 03:00 / 03:20people conditioner as well and yesguinea pig skin conditioner and this isalso I love it because it just it justadds that little extra touch earlier alot of people askthe reasons that they've heard why theydon't give their game pics about becauseit can dry out their skin oh yes yesWatch at: 03:20 / 03:40no doesn't you don't even doing it ifyou're doing it every week or everyother week then of course if that is notvery good if you do with that autumn butyou're only gonna do it three or fourtimes a year you're not gonna dry outtheir skin no they do sometimes comehere with very flaky flaky fur yes thatmeans that they need a bath actuallyWatch at: 03:40 / 04:00that means that they need a bath becausethat is it's fairly common that they canhave a little you know Blakey's skinit's almost like a dandruff actuallywhich can be caused by you know andpeople to buy kind of a fungus as 06:20just trim it a lot because it's sogreasy that it's it's almost impossibleto wash it off there's no shampoo that'sgood enough we use something calledgroomers goop which it's not here we dohave it but the link will be also we canshow it when we could do a best yeahexactly and that that does do a bit of aWatch at: 06:20 / 06:40good job but it's either way it stops soI'm still all for doing a lot of cuttingand cutting it off so like lithium forinstance to not make him look silly Iwould leave this longer and then I wouldjust put this so that it then falls overso he doesn't look like you know oftendo you have to put every three months sowhenever you do the bath do thepreventive as well because you're gonnado the anti fungal preventative withWatch at: 07:40 / 08:00your back so just just you know time itaround the same time so you do it likethat okay buddy let's see now he's aTeddy so Teddy's usually have a littlebit of a dirtier drier ear brother notdirty dry with a lot of kind of dry totally not going there youWatch at: 08:20 / 08:40are just doing all these little crevicesin the ear really kind of cleaning itout so and then when your q-tip comes upclean that is when you can turn him overto the other side now you want to putWatch at: 08:40 / 09:00the olive oil before you start puttingthe q-tip in to help loosen it rightthat's right yeah cuz it's that dry skinthat is hard to remove if you just tryit without anything with any oil it'sjust almost impossible to remove so theWatch at: 09:00 / 09:20oil just makes it much easier to take itall outno this isn't ear wax right nodisrespect should be a dry skin yes dryskin cell so in most guinea pigs heavenand what is interesting is that it isthe color of the skin of yeah of the ofthe ear so he is see how it matches soWatch you look warm temperatureI'm using a dog ball you can use alittle bucket or you know anything atallC is struggling which is fineand see how I'm holding him actually forthis part I'm always holding them likeWatch at: 12:00 / 12:20this with that little paw right inbetween the fingers that really helps alot in maintaining your grip on him andhe will feel a little more secure aswell so what I first want to do is makesure he's nice and and wet everywherebefore I put on the shampoo so did youalready pour some shampoo in that wateryes I did thank you for reminding meWatch at: 12:20 / 12:40you really Rock I did put a littleshampoo already because it's it'salready starting to work its kind offungal killing properties and if yourguinea pig has ringworm you want to letthem kind of you know soak a little bitsoak a little longer yes and I have aWatch at: 12:40 / 13:00really good video of showing how tobathe a guinea pig that has really badringworm okay so let's put on theshampoos so you're always holding himbut yeah it is key because if not hewill want to jump out it's like you knowyou can sometimes have a guinea pig thatWatch at: 13:00 / 13:20doesn't mind but usually they do andthey're waiting for an opportunity to goand jump you're being a very good boyyes you are now what I like to do isactually put like a little shampoo herethen I can then use to take just aWatch at: 13:20 / 13:40little bit for underneath the chin ontop of the nose II because you do wantto get that shampoo everywhere and youyes you have to wash their little facesjust being really careful around the eyeand you want to just measure the earsright yeah exactly but you will watch meWatch at: 13:40 / 14:00in a little bit when I do the totalclean rinse off you'll see that Iactually will have quite a bit of waterthat will actually go up here to rinseit off and it's totally fineoh thank you very much so now I need alittle more from this belly over here soWatch at: 14:00 / 14:20this is kind of where you hold them inthe air a little bit when you're doingthis part and the way cannot getscratched it's just to make sure thatthese back legs I'm not getting anywherenear your new your arms because peopleWatch at: 14:20 / 14:40get scratched real badly like this withfading stuff with bathing and I used to- my I was always covered in scratchesuntil I got lice and I'd have wait asecond if I just figure out a way tohold them without them being able toreach my skin than with those back legsI think I'm good so that's what Ifigured now what I'd like to do is putWatch at: 14:40 / 15:00them on my can feel it workokay let's rinse it off real quick let'sput it on again a little secondand you can totally see how it's kind ofdid a great jobyeah getting rid of all that extralittle flakes that greasy flakes thereokay nice lukewarm water so I can startWatch at: 16:40 / 17:00 Watch at: 17:00 / 17:20to rinse them off if you're gonna fixWatch at: 17:20 / 17:40really dirty you could definitely do ittwice give him a bath twice rinse themoff and this is see how the skin flakesfeel really you rinse out of the coatokaymy likingWatch at: 17:40 / 18:00now the easy way to do the bottom partand under the neck is to turn them overWatch at: 18:00 / 18:20like this and you can actually run thewater if he's still you wait till themto lurk nice and calm and you can runthe water very close to the 22:40 / 23:00moisturizer in the conditioner sorry inthe hair which will really help withbrushing so I know he doesn't reallyhave long hair but you can totally seehow much this just slides through that youuse for yourself you can use for yourguinea pigthere okay so you want to do thetrimming and the brushing after the bathbecause that's when otherwise it's kindof a hard to do you know brush to hearWatch at: 23:20 / 23:40good if there's these if it's matador nobut when it's just got the nice - theconditioner on it it's so much easier tobrush to comb through and then to cutinto a proper job but if they have a lotof mattes you want to cut those beforeyeah super big mats yeah you definitelywant to cut them before but you want todo like the the last bit you know toWatch at: 23:40 / 24:00really get the look going you want to dothat after and he's got some milky stuffin his eyes a lot of people ask aboutthat so this is what happensshe usually after a bath because theygonna start to kind of wash themselvesand clean themselves a little bit andthis is a natural thing that happensthat they produce this white fluid intheir eyesWatch at: 24:00 / 24:20and what you will see them do is thatthey will grab that fluid and they'llstart washing their whole face with itso it's like a grooming liquid a naturalgrooming liquid now a lot of peoplethink that actually that's what I that'swhat someone told me is that becausethey produced that grooming liquid thatis fine for the whole body to take careof themselves with that little bit ofWatch at: 24:20 / 24:40liquid that they produce in their eyebut you know it's never gonna they arenever gonna do a good a good of a job asyou would with a bath so okay alrightbuddyyou starting to get a little cold nowyou they start to shake put them back they can get they canget a cold they can actually get anupper respiratory as well so what youwant to do is make sure that youblow-dry them really well and if it'sreally nice warm day in of shade where they can go ifthey want to sit in the direct Sun theycan choose to do to do so themselvesalright some guinea pigs flip out whenyou actually turn it on so let's see ifhe's gonna be good
