Watch at: 00:00 / 00:00:20today I'm going to make a miniaturesteel plate design and I have to thankbrain exploding for this modification ifyou go to his youtube channel you'll seehow his is made it is fantastic but Idon't have the money to buy the littleplastic things that he makes so I'mgoing to design my own so stay tuned soWatch at: 00:20 / 00:40what I've done was taking a scrap pieceof deck board and this one is 35 and 3/8inches and I cut a piece of 2x4 from thefront so here's my idea I'm going to dolet's take these plates here like thisWatch at: 00:40 / 01:00and I had to drill out two holes so thatit lined up with these two holes I hadto drill a hole in this one also and sothese two holes will line up with thathole in that hole in the metal piece soWatch at: 01:00 / 01:20that home that home will line up withtwo of these I'll show you how Imeasured this out in a minute so my ideais to take this put a hinge on it andthen it will knock down so my hands willWatch at: 01:20 / 01:40attach to this bottom portion here and Iwanted it so that this strap here wasnot sticking up above this so this righthere is the front be shooting from thisdirection and that waythe only thing that gets hit is thisplate here I guess knocked down so I'mWatch at: 01:40 / 02:00going to go ahead and drill out mystraps these straps and these electricalpanel covers so I use my 3/16 drill bitto drill out these two holes here to fitthis plate so all I did was I tookWatch at: 02:00 / 02:20I took the plate and these right hereyou can get them at Lowe's or Home Depotthey're in the electrical department allit is is an electrical plate cover so mycenter hole is right here I'm going totake that line it up with this bottomWatch at: 02:20 / 02:40hole here and then try to get this holethis top center hole and that hole alllined up once I do that take and make amark take a mark and that's where I'llWatch at: 02:40 / 03:00drill and I'll put a tee that way I knowthat's my top now I'm going to drillWatch at: 03:00 / 03:20these holes out on this point I want totake a clamp my quick grip and clampthis down to my project table you wantWatch at: 03:20 / 03:40to be as safe as possible with thisWatch at: 03:40 / 04:00now I'm going to drill out my platesWatch at: 04:00 / 04:20Watch at: 04:20 / 04:40so I'm taking the bolt that came with itWatch at: 04:40 / 05:00and this is the front of the plateputting it through our holes and on theother side I'm putting a flat washer alock washer and then and thatWatch at: 05:00 / 05:20get my baby [ __ ] hold it in I'm gonnatake a flathead screwdriver and screwthis in the rest of the waynice and calm now I'm going to assembleWatch at: 05:20 / 05:40the rest of these and then put on afresh coat of paint on these I thinkI'll paint them white or maybe red I'mnot sure yetwe'll see I didn't cuss too much aboutZack measurements on these I just triedto evenly spaced them out all the wayacross and I'm going to use these LWatch at: 05:40 / 06:00brackets to attach the boards to recoverbecause I don't want any metal otherthan the plates themselves on theoutside of this so I decided to go see Lbrackets I'm going to try it out and seehow it works out and we'll see the onlything I did do is leave a bigger gap inWatch at: 06:00 / 06:20the middle and somewhere somehow somewayI want to put a string here for thereset plate to reset the plate we'll seehow that works out I haven't figuredthat one out quite yet so I want to goahead and attach these bracketsWatch at: 06:20 / 06:40before it gets too dark out here I'vedecided to paint these a fluorescentorange color to make them highly visibleWatch at: 06:40 / 07:00okay I'm going to let that set upovernight and come back tomorrow andfinish this project up for this portionyou're going to need your plate some 10snips I'm going to use pop rivets a twoinch hinge and I'm using the 1/8 inchWatch at: 07:00 / 07:20pop rivets with washers so the firstthing I want to do is determine whichway this is going to lay inside theactual target itself so my target isfacing me I'm looking at it and what IWatch at: 07:20 / 07:40want it to do I want this plate to sitin front on the front side of this hingeand fall flat so this is going to fallflat like this so what I need to do isWatch at: 07:40 / 08:00line these holes up and when the outsideholds up with the hinge holes and thisis where our tin snips are going to comeinto play I mean see if I can get thisin close and you guys can see exactlywhat I'm talking about okay so my twoWatch at: 08:00 / 08:20holes are lined up you see the holeslined up here and here here and here andnow you see this bump right here but onthe hinge part we're going to have tocut this off right here so I want toWatch at: 08:20 / 08:40take my pencil and draw a line all theway across here and take my 10 snips andcut that portion off because if we don'tthis bottom part is going to interferewith the hinge it's going to interferewith it falling flat so we're going tocut that off and get rid of itWatch at: 08:40 / 09:00okay you see I got my line I'm going tocut that off now this doesn't have to beperfect or pretty just need to get ridof that small portion there and I keepWatch at: 09:00 / 09:20checking this to make sure I have itpointed in the right direction make sureit's going to fall the way I want it tobefore I do anything permanent so what Iwant to do is I'm going to drop in myrivets drop those both in at the sametime that way they're both in there IWatch at: 09:20 / 09:40know they're in there and I know they'regoing to fit in there properly then I'mgoing to flip this over put my washer onand then I'm going to go ahead andWatch at: 09:40 / 10:00ratchet one of these offWatch at: 10:00 / 10:20and then the other okay there we go it'son there it's nice and secure and thenwhen that pellet hits that boom it'sjust gonna fall nice and flat all rightWatch at: 10:20 / 10:40I'm going to finish up these and thenI'll be right back to you okay everybodyI wanted to show you guys this realquick before it started raining so all Idid was attach my hinge to the to thebackside of my backstop here and nowWatch at: 10:40 / 11:00just a quick hit just like that andtomorrow I'm going to come out here andwork on a resetting remote or resettingwith some kind of a string or somethingI haven't figured that out yet but Iwill and I'll wrap this up for the dayWatch at: 11:00 / 11:20go ahead and get the rest of thesemounted on and then I will come backtomorrow and work on something forresetting hello everybody I'm back againtoday and it's threatening to rain againyet again but I'm going to keep workinguntil either does rain or gets too darkWatch at: 11:20 / 11:40so continuing on I've got all my hingesattached to the plate so if got all ofthem attached I already know they're allgoing to lay this way like that now mynext thing that I want to do is figureWatch at: 11:40 / 12:00out where exactly to tie down this hingeat I want this to be easy to knock overI don't want it to be really really hardso what I'm doing is I'm holding myhinge like this and then I'm touching itwith my finger to see how hard it is toknock down and trying to find that rightWatch at: 12:00 / 12:20balance is kind of hard but this righthere is perfectso what I'm going to do hold it in thatplace I'm going to take my pencil make acircle and just kind of color it in alittle bit so I know exactly where IWatch at: 12:20 / 12:40want to put that hinge I color it injust in case it moves so I know exactlywhere I want it then I'm going to screwit in place I think that there's a trickWatch at: 12:40 / 13:00now the fall is not great this one alittle bit stiff and I think it's stillWatch at: 13:00 / 13:20going to work okay this is my ideanumber one we'll see how this one worksout I want to use this heavy gauge steelwire you can find this at Lowe's HomeDepot where they have all the thingsthat hang up pictures picture frames andhanging stuff like that by the commandhooks this is where I found this stuffWatch at: 13:20 / 13:40so my idea is to bend it have a littlebit to tie down come up a small loop andthen come back down kind of like asquare u-shape upside-down square yousee how this worksokay I want to show you right quick andWatch at: 13:40 / 14:00what I'll do is I measure this thing outsaying you know how long it is so incase you want to make one for yourselfyou can learn through my mistakes andnot have to do what I'm doing just makeit okay so the idea is to put this hereand this is going to swivel up and downWatch at: 14:00 / 14:20like this you'll see what I meanso when the target gets knocked downthis is gonna well of course it's like Imight want to cut it there but it'sgonna reset I might have that too longWatch at: 14:20 / 14:40I'll get hung up on there okay I'm gladI did that but you get the idea okay Igot partially I've got it partiallyfigured out so I came up about threeinches here right at about three inchesWatch at: 14:40 / 15:00okay make that three and a half inchesnope three and a quarterthree and a quarter inches so I came athree and a quarter inches here and Ilaid these three down I figured thatWatch at: 15:00 / 15:20this right here is gonna need to beright here on the edge I'm gonna holdthat down with my thumb and I bring itforward it's not stuck in the table Ericso I bring it forward rotate it andWatch at: 15:20 / 15:40that's how that's gonna workall right have my round file here I'mjust going to use this as a guide tomake my loop this wire it's pretty thickit's tough so this is going to be alittle bit of a challenge I believe takeWatch at: 15:40 / 16:00this is it still easy in my mind whatWatch at: 16:00 / 16:19I'll be using are three quarter inch petstaples just something I already had onhandI'm just gonna hammer those down in herelike so I just got to find the rightspot right spot for them see how thisWatch at: 16:19 / 16:40works out because I'm not exactly surehow this is going to work out I am NOTgoing to put these all the way down youwant to put them down far enough that itwon't slide out I got some paracord hereWatch at: 16:40 / 17:00I want to tie this into the loop here soI'll do a simple knotand hold this this way all right guysthis is a moment of truth we'll see ifthis works or not I'll target to knockWatch at: 17:00 / 17:20down pull reset come out of the thing Ithink it would workWatch at: 17:20 / 17:40I think that's going to work I thinkthat's going to work that came outexactly the way I had hoped the onlyWatch at: 17:40 / 18:00thing is this part right here just alittle too short and it's going to pullout there so I need to figure that outI think that would involve moving thisfit staple further in hold that in thereokay so all the targets are knocked downWatch at: 18:00 / 18:20just don't want to put that last oneWatch at: 18:20 / 18:40see if it makes a difference have alittle on the top heredoes Sonny have that knot on top keep itup here try it againWatch at: 18:40 / 19:00Watch at: 19:00 / 19:20okay everybody I think I've got thisfigured out so what I did was I used aquick link I didn't use the loop that Imade here and I tied it to this sidebecause it was having a hard timeresetting this one particular targethere on this end so I decided to put theWatch at: 19:20 / 19:40quick link on this and see if I can geta little bit more leverage to reset thisone single target and it seems to beworking so only all these down and itWatch at: 19:40 / 20:00lays down on its ownthis resetting bar lays down but leastright back down on its own without anySprings or anything on it so I'm justgonna leave that just like it is so youcan again all that is is just a quickWatch at: 20:00 / 20:20link just tie it over to my paracordmm-hmm I got lucky in that this the waythis is on here that it resets itselfit's the way it's bit also because it'sgot like a little bit of a bend how itcomes upwards on this end and that helpsWatch at: 20:20 / 20:40it lay back down on its ownsee how it doeshey everybody I'm going to go ahead andpractice on this play track and I am 20Watch at: 20:40 / 21:00yards 20 yards away the camera it lookscloser because it's zoomed in but I'm 20yards away so let's check this outwell unfortunately I was not able to getthe targets to knock down with my littleWatch at: 21:00 / 21:20handheld so I switched over to my pelletrifle and now I'm going to test it outsee how it works on thisWatch at: 21:20 / 21:40Watch at: 21:40 / 22:00okay that was a lot of fun now to testWatch at: 22:00 / 22:20my reset mechanism see if I can find theend of the string hereWatch at: 22:20 / 22:40Watch at: 22:40 / 23:00alright that worked perfectly I wentperfectly we go for second roundWatch at: 23:00 / 23:20Watch at: 23:20 / 23:40that was a lot of fun that was round twoWatch at: 23:40 / 24:00my rifle the scopes are off it'sshooting low so all those misses it wasWatch at: 24:00 / 24:20going over the target so I had to startaiming low on the bottom side of thetarget now when I go down and look atand see what kind of damage that thisthe pellets left on thereall right so you see the pellets whenthey hit they leave a bit more of a dingWatch at: 24:20 / 24:40than compared to the bb's pellet dingit's a BB ding but this thing is holdingup very nicely very nicely a snug littleWatch at: 24:40 / 25:00near center right there pretty darn good

  1. I’m not going to lie for a girl I am actually very impressed I will tell you did a hell of a damn job I am going to give you a few little pointers about the resetting bar you could go a stiffer bar and to prevent that type of metal from slipping out the sides you can bend it up words so it doesn’t slide out

  2. Well done ma'am. Glad I watched your video. You absolutely did an excellent job. I just finished making a dueling tree a few weeks ago and I have been wanting to make a reset targets for handguns.

  3. That was really cool that gives me an idea for one I’ll make except I can’t use steel because I have an airsoft gun instead of a bb or airgun. But that was really cool NOICE WORK!!!

  4. May I suggest small flat magnetic strips that have adhesive on one side and a flat magnetic strip on the other. They would be just strong enough to stop your targets from falling when you hit the wood.

  5. Great video. Wish I'd have found this 4 months ago. Would have saved me some trial and error. Another excellent target is the metal caps for steel fencing. The weld on type. Drill a hole in the top for a bolt, drill a small hole in the end of the bolt, and hang with some bailing wire. Makes a great little bell target. Have a wonderful day.

  6. Great job ! You could also use a V string connection for your string pull up. A bridle of sorts if you will….Using 2 points of connection might help it work more uniform and smoothly. Like how a kites bridle functions. Hope that makes sense.

  7. Great idea! If you wanted to make one for higher calibers without breaking the bank on ar500 steel, you could simply rivet tin cans in place of the electrical covers. Once the cans were destroyed you could just replace them. Mount the whole thing upside down and just let gravity reset the system.

  8. Tiffany… that is a fantastic idea I think you could figure out all the geometry in patent this for firearms in a heavy duty version.. it looks like a real safe design…OR manufacture yourself with some friends and sell the crap outta 'em…the targets, not your friends…HAH!… Keep on keeping on

  9. 1st never run ur finger over fresh metal ,if the metal doesn't cut u the shavings will be in ur finger for later. 2 there was no need to cut the hinge, just place it on top drill and screw. it will be much more sturdy when knocking {shooting}them down. No need to lay flat. 3rd order 5 plates from ebay u will need washers but the screws should work in the eye{500 AR steel the thinnest} $25. 4th run ur rope out the bottom so u dont shoot it. Drill a 45 degree hole from ur reset towards the front. Now u can shoot real bullets .thanks for the vid.

  10. Interesting idea. I would like to have one but I don't have the money. But I have all the supplies at home so I can make it. It's always good to see women who are interested in the outdoors and shooting.
